Temporalist Guide (e550+)
Introduction
Last updated for version 1.61
This guide is specifically for after e550 Mysteries, meaning that you have Mechanos Apexis unlocked and can use it. It changes many things significantly from the pre-e550 version.
The Good | The Bad | The Ugly |
---|---|---|
* Best time scaling in the game * Very good at gaining character levels, and autoclicks/VEs/spells cast for achievements |
* Very low base power, needs longer exiles than other classes to get large profits * Doesn't have great offline scaling |
* Without enough skipped time, character ability falls victim to significant +1s due to huge divisors |
Legendary Temporal Stabilizer is very strongly recommended. As with the previous guide, and as mentioned in the table above, Temporalist has a large divisor in its character ability, and you need to reach a certain point of skipped time in order to make the +1 not significant, so having more skipped time is very important. Even besides that, more skipped time is a strong bonus by itself, and worth getting.
Attribute Points
Your starting attributes should be :
- Intelligence : 155
- Insight : 140 (+60 from Legacy and Netherfist, 200 total)
- Spellcraft : 250
- *Wisdom : 200*
- Dominance : 0
- Patience : 150
- Mastery : 250
- Empathy : 175 (+75 from Bite Sleeves, although if you don't have it legendary then don't bother getting to 250 until much later)
*NOTE: If moving from the pre-e550 Tempo guide, you will notice that we have 200 WIS now - when we move to MA, we lose the shard pool efficiency from Risen Giant, which makes it difficult to upkeep our spells without either this WIS or spell shard items; at the same time, we gain additional incantation efficiency scaling and a ton of spell casts due to MA casting KBB through Wormhole, powering up this perk and making it worth grabbing.
Next priorities are 250 MAS, then INT in 25-point intervals until you get 230 (+20 from Circlet Of Deep Thoughts). Then, 50 more INS (to get 250 during VM). Then, get PAT 250. If you don't have EMP 250 from Bite Sleeves, get that next.
Now, you have all relevant perks during burst. Before dumping into VERS, make sure to put points into every att besides WIS/DOM until you cannot put any more into them (250).
Once you have 250 (240 with maxed Innate Aptitude) VERS, reallocate it into DOM. The DOM150+250 perks are worth more than the VERS you're losing, unless you have Unnatural Talents (in which case it can be close and you'll have to assess for yourself). You do not need to max WIS/DOM - if you have maxed Innate Aptitude, for example, you only need 240 in those two, unlike the other 6 attributes in which you want 250 anyway.
Phase Scaling
In buildup, we only scale our spells based on log(Evo) from Wormhole. We can approximate this to be ~^0.008, although it slightly depends on how much evo eff you have (getting worse as you get more). It's also worth noting that PAP^1 -> Evo, so PAP has the same scaling here. CAP^.5 -> Evo, too, which leaves CAP at ~^0.004 for this phase. We can gain more profits by getting more Pet EXP, though - MA has incredible scaling per level. Again, approximating a log here, we get Pet EXP ~^0.10-.15 depending on pet level, which ends up leaving us with our CPE phase.
In VM, we use Void Radiance, so we have VpE ^1 and Inc Eff ^1.22 (the .02 is from Void Lure affecting INS200/250, although this is an approximation of a double log).
In Snap, we have Inc Eff^1 for StF, and Inc Eff ~^1.127 for GR (this is another log approximation).
Finally, the most important bit: burst. We have:
- Evocation, CAP, PAP, Idle, Profit ^1
- Incantation ^4
Let's begin!
The Run
Overview
We start the run by using Refined Wormhole to maximize some pet effects, as pets "keep going" during the skipped time. We do this with Greater Chimaera to max sources (which only takes a few seconds) and Pixie to generate a lot of autoclicks (usually 5-10min). We also cast Synthetic Entity for Void Entities during this time.
Then, we switch to Mechanos Apexis and begin our main buildup. We stack QI, skipped time, and Ley Overdrive/True Sorcery. We also devote a portion of our time to Conjure Primal Elemental for its large Pet EXP bonus.
Then, we begin our burst: Void Mana, then snapping StF, followed by GR, and then finally swapping to our burst bar, where we can have 6 incantations because MA casts KBB.
Step 1: Setting Up the Run
Goals:
- Max our sources with Greater Chimaera
- Build up Void Entities and autoclicks for character EXP
Before we begin our main buildup, we want to build up some character experience, because Tempo scales its profits based on character exp (and also skips more time based on level). At the very start of the exile go to Greater Chimaera to immediately max out your sources - it will take no time at all due to Refined Wormhole. After sources are maxed, swap to Pixie to get autoclicks. Use the following spell and gear sets:
|
The amount of VEs/autoclicks you're going for will depend slightly on enchants, but it doesn't really matter. Character experience from these sources are logged, so you don't want to spend more than 5-10 minutes in this phase, or maybe 20 minutes for especially long exiles. Early on, this can result in ~1e9 VEs and ~1e14 ACs, whereas by the time you're approaching ascensions it might be more like 1e10 VEs and 1e15 ACs. Don't spend too long in this phase just to reach a certain number, though.
Note: If you still don't have enough character experience to reach Refined Wormhole near-immediately, then you may want to spend a small amount of time on Chronomancer with this gear set and a similar spell set (Singularity beam + SE + Wormhole, Pixie) to get some character experience to unlock Refined Wormhole. By the time you get to this guide, though, that should be unnecessary.
Step 2: Buildup
Goals:
- Cast Quasi-incantation as MUCH as possible, as it is our best source of time scaling. This thing is insane. Just trust me.
- Increase our skipped time with Wormhole, to scale our class ability
- Have Mechanos Apexis active, since it scales on real pet time
- Split up our buildup between different spells in our flex slot (see note on Cast Ratios below).
Switch to Mechanos Apexis, and begin our main buildup. This will last for the vast majority of the exile. Temporalist enjoys longer exiles, because it has incredible time scaling, and MA's cast rate of KBB doesn't max out until 24h. However, you can still succeed with shorter runs; see what works for you. You lose nothing by bursting, besides the time spent not casting our buildup spells. For the majority of our exile, we use mostly the same spell and gear set as before, with some minor differences.
|
However, as noted below in the Cast Ratios section, we wear Conjure Primal Elemental for a portion of the exile, which requires slightly different gear.
|
Note: Before spending too much time on buildup, do a quick burst (Steps 3-5) in order to get more upgrades (potentially more evocation efficiency, and more experience for MA).
Cast Ratios: In the second spell slot, we spend ~70% of the exile on Ley Overdrive, and the remaining time on Conjure Primal Elemental. If you have low Evo Eff, meaning Primal Power increases your skipped time per wormhole by a significant (generally >30%) amount, then you should also spend some time on that. However, in this range, if you have full legendary gear, then that generally doesn't happen. If you want to see an explanation/math behind these ratios, see the [Expand] button to the right.
In this buildup, we have 4 spell slots taken all the time in order to cast Wormhole efficiently. This leaves us with technically 2 slots in order to cast 4 spells, but one of these spells is QI, which has such insane cast scaling that it's optimal to ALWAYS have it on (and in fact, when you can't cast it at full speed, sacrificing the other slot to Conjure Greater Elemental is best to keep it up, as seen in the e300 version of this guide). This means we have one slot to split 3 spells across during our exile. These 3 spells are:
- Primal Power (PP) - increases Evocation Eff, which increases the power of our wormhole and thus skipped time.
- Ley Overdrive (LO) - used in burst, and has Casts^.75 scaling.
- Conjure Primal Elemental (CPE) - increases Pet EXP while active by a large amount, and has casts^1 scaling to that effect.
The problem with calculating exact ratios is that two of these effects (Evo Eff and Pet EXP) have logarithmic scaling to profit, due to Wormhole being log(Evo) and pet EXP requirements scaling exponentially per level. However, we can use some approximations to find approximate ratios for a given pet level and evocation efficiency. Changing these starting values doesn't change the end result a TON, but it does make a small difference, which makes these cast ratios even more loose than most other classes.
What we do to approximate these logarithms is slightly different for both.
For Wormhole's log(evo), we take log(a*m)/log(a) -1, where a is the amount of evo eff you start with, and m is some arbitrary multiplier to that (I used 1.2, although changing it does not significantly change the outcome). This gives us ~0.0033, which is the power we raise additional Evo eff to for the amount of skipped time it will give us. To get the profit from an amount of evo eff, we raise that evo eff to the Wormhole exponent, and then raise that to ^3.43, which is the scaling of skipped time -> profit.
For pet level, we take the log base 1.24 of the profit gained from 1 extra pet level, which is equal to , where p is the current pet level, e is the class's total evocation scaling (~1.01), and i is the class's total incantation scaling (~7.32). This is because MA is to Evo eff, and to Inc eff. This gives us roughly ^0.14, which we raise any potential amount of pet EXP to to get the approximate amount of profit gained from it.
Now that we have approximations of the logs, we can much more easily convert time spent on one spell to profit. I made a table where I could put in different ratios of time between the 3 spells and it would calculate the total profit, and I tried to find the best one. With my current assumptions, it lands at 0% PP, 71% LO, and 29% CPE, which I rounded to 70/30 for simplicity and because it likely undervalues CPE as it doesn't really account for the additional pet exp you'd earn as it scales up, but that shouldn't really change anything. The calculations for the 70/30 ratio were done with the assumption of ~1e130 evo and a level 325 pet, which is a bit on the high side. These calculations do account for the loss in evocation eff (and thus skipped time) by switching to the CPE gear set, and also the loss in TS casts due to wearing summon duration reduction items instead of incant duration reduction items with CPE.
It's important to note that these are still approximations, and will not be entirely accurate. If you have a lot less Evo eff than I'm assuming (meaning like e50% or lower, which isn't really even possible with MA) then it may be optimal to use PP for a nonzero amount of time.
Don't worry about being perfectly optimal to these cast ratios - just ballpark it, and especially for shorter exiles, you'll be close enough.
Step 2.5: Offline Buildup
Goals:
- Maximize buildup while offline
This section of the guide was written before Wormhole applied offline (v1.58). As of v1.61, Wormhole is, to my knowledge, still slightly bugged to not work fully while offline, but this will be fixed at some point in the future. Right now, we still need to do this offline phase to make the most of it, but at some point in the future we will not have to.
This section of the guide only applies if you go OFFLINE (e.g. closing the game). Spell effects do not happen while offline, meaning that staying in our normal buildup set will only give us TS and QI casts. In order to squeeze a bit more out of our time while offline, we're going to scry our spells!
|
It's not worth stacking Superposition very much, but we don't cast it anywhere else, so it may be worth swapping out CPE for some time (i.e. like 10 minutes total in a days-long exile. Seriously, not much).
This setup is simply maximizing offline profits. This is still significantly worse than being online, and if you're playing Tempo, you should be trying to keep the game open as much as possible.
Step 3: Void Mana Phase
Goals:
- Gain as much Void Mana as possible!
We use Void Radiance because we can't swap off of MA without losing a ton of bonuses from time. This phase should last anywhere from 1-5 minutes, and not more than that.
|
Step 4: Snap Phase
Goals:
- Snap Stabilize the Flow and Gem Resonance.
Temporalist has 2 different spells it can snap: StF and GR. In this game, "snap" means that a spell will "snapshot" the incantation efficiency you had when you cast the spell, and retain that for its entire duration. You can utilize this by equipping as much inc eff as possible, casting these spells, and then swapping to burst gear. StF and GR require slightly different sets to snap, because StF also snaps how much time distortion it consumes. We first snap StF, as it has a longer duration:
|
Gear Replacements:
- At enchant 34+5, Anointed Ashes is better than Heart of the Storm.
- Empowering Chestguard and Chronoboost Ring do not need enchants.
This seems complicated, but I promise it isn't actually that hard! You will have to get used to doing this, though.
Step 5: Burst Phase
Goals:
- Maximize profit!
- MA will cast KBB, so we can have 6 incants on the bar!
Burst time! If desired, you can use Revert to refresh StF and GR to burst for a longer period of time (replacing any of the first 4 spells in this spell set will work just fine)

Pantheon
With only the primary abilities unlocked (and so Chaos is also locked):
Altermutus >> Procreogenus = Ardourium = Tempoaeverum (Veritallos and Animataelia's primary abilities are worthless for Temporalist)
After unlocking everything:
Cerebros > Altermutus >> Procreogenus > Chaos >> Ardourium = Tempoaeverum >>> Animataelia >> Veritallos
> Means the gods should be kept somewhat close in level, with preference to the one on the left
>> Means the one on the left should be kept fairly higher than the one on the right
= Means the god effect is essentially equal. There is some *small* preference to Ardourium over Tempoaeverum due to the small benefit to buildup, but no more than 1 level worth over Tempoaeverum
Animataelia and Veritallos have such small effects on Temporalist that they are hardly worth levelling at all (Animataelia is slightly worthwhile for a couple levels, the shard efficieny on Veritallos is an incredibly small scaling that only impacts the Wisdom profit perks).
Source Memetics
To clarify, 'gild' stands for the profit source memetic which levels whenever you craft memetic ingots. Memetics should be placed as:
Gild on Mana Gems
Nothing on Grimoires
Incantation Efficiency on Spell Fountains
Character Experience on Enchanted Trees
Evocation Efficiency on Alchemy Desks
Character Ability Power on Circles of Power
Pet Ability Power on Dimensional Shards
Autoclick Profit on Ley Temporal Singletons
Putting Autoclick profit on LTS means you end up with slightly more of them, increasing the effect of Ley Overdrive and Temporal Stabilizer, as well as some of the extra "profit based on nexi" upgrades Tempo gets.
Spell Memetics
For use specifically with Merp's spell meme spreadsheet. Find it in the Discord, and bug me to add it here later but the captcha hates me rn. If "Other" says "Cast rate", then check the "Cast rate matters?" box for that spell, and similarly for "Autoclick" -> "Autoclick profit?"
Efficiency is the increase in profit per level. To do this manually, simply compare the values of - whichever is highest is the best. Accounting for casts scaling is a bit more involved, and probably shouldn't be done manually, but casts scaling is the power you raise the increase in casts to.
Spell | Efficiency | Casts scaling | Autoclick amt scaling | Other |
---|---|---|---|---|
Kelphior's Black Beam | 1.5 | 1 | 0 | Cast rate |
Converge Timelines | 1.2 | 0 | 0 | |
Void Radiance | 1.244 | 0 | 0 | |
True Sorcery | 1.2 | 0.85 | 0 | Cast amt |
Ley Overdrive | 1.2 | 0.75 | 0 | Cast amt |
Quasi-incantation | 1 | 11.1 | 0 | Cast amt and cast rate |
Stabilize the Flow | 1.2 | 0 | 0 | |
Superposition | 1.2 | 0 | 0 | |
Gem Resonance | 1.154 | 0 | 0 | |
Refined Wormhole | 1.0098 | 3.43 | 0 | Cast rate |
Void Lure | 1.0115 | 0 | 0 | |
Conjure Primal Elemental | 1.0013 | 0 | 0 |
Always make sure you level your shard pool enough! This just requires testing - after leveling some memes a bit, try your buildup phase and see if they're casting properly.
Quasi-incantation and Refined Wormhole are weird - QI has incredibly strong casts scaling, so it can be worth it to level it (with multiples of 2 or 3 only) to almost the same level as some of your burst spells, and RWH is also decently strong. However, you need to make sure that you can sustain it at the max cast rate, whatever that is for you, which relies entirely on the enchants of Eerie Turquoise Phylactery and Temporal Scabbard. It's worth noting that for QI specifically, it's also an option to down-level it during the exile, and then level it back up during VM/snap/burst because the increased cast amount every 3 levels is retroactive, although this won't affect the cast rate, which is also relevant.
Leave the summon table in the top right empty.
Enchant Priority
How to read this: -0 is your highest bonus(es). Whatever enchant level you get those item(s) to, all other tiers are based on that. For example, if Reality Prism is enchant level 20+5, then The Rubedo Engine should be 16+5. The number in the parentheses next to each item is their exact profit bonus per enchant.
The first column is only including BiS items at highest enchants. None of the items below 15+5 are included, and the ones in between that and the highest are in the Conditional column, with a note as to when they are in that priority tier.
If you want more exact assignments, that can account for only being able to level up some of the items, then use this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rN-1hM4csPTn9KcIcIPmHsEDNR-552syJroEFleJd-U/edit?usp=sharing
Also, 30% evocation items in buildup should be about -13, while 15% or 20% evocation items should be about -14. This is approximate, and changes depending on the exact amount of evocation efficiency you have, but around -14 is good enough and costs you almost nothing.
Temporal Scabbard and Eerie Turquoise Phylactery should be enchanted to ~7-10+5 before spell memes. Scabbard should be higher than Eerie by a decent bit, because you can't use Eerie during our CPE buildup and it will need to sustain QI/wormhole on its own then.
Temporalist Demiurge Guide
Only very minor changes needed from Base Tempo. We gain a new spell to stack during buildup Forge Empyreal Vassal and we lose Converge Timelines from our burst set and replace it with Conjure Void Elemental. The use of Conjure Void Elemental does mean it's worth losing a bit of Mechanos Apexis time to use Voidterror to boost our maximum Void Mana early in the exile.
Build Up
You want to do the same thing as the regular Tempo Buildup, but we also have to stack Forge Empyreal Vassal and Conjure Void Elemental. The optimal ratio is ~47% FEV, ~27% LO, and ~26% CVE, or you can round to 50/25/25.
Remember to cast Synthetic Entity to gather entities at the beginning of an exile, with Searing Gaze!
Optional Hyperoptimization: As a small optimization, you can use CPE for a tiny portion of the exile and offload pet EXP gear to it for a bit of extra profit. If you choose to do that, I have included gearsets. This is only ~10-15% extra profit, so you definitely don't need to worry about it if you'd like to simplify your life. The exact time you use CPE for shouldn't be long; the exact proportion is somewhere around 0.0001% of the exile. This would be just about 1 minute in a 7 day exile, although you shouldn't be worried about it being too long if you're still under a minute or two, since that barely makes a difference.
Note: Scrying for a short part of the exile is technically a gain but due to the lost QI casts from using Rubedo instead of Ritual disk it's an incredibly minor gain (~1.18x profits if done optimally) and is easy to lose profits if you do it incorrectly so it's not worth doing.
FEV/LO (47%/26% respectively)
|
CVE (25%)
|
The differences in gear are simply due to CVE being a summon, not an incantation, so you need different duration reduction.
Void Mana Maximizing
NOTE: This is of questionable benefit due to the extra edust required and you already getting high VM from Mechanos Apexis boosting Void Radiance. This should theoretically be beneficial on long runs where you've had a decent amount of time to stack FEV but you can ignore this phase on short runs.
Due to the use of Conjure Void Elemental it's worth losing a bit of Mechanos Apexis time to use Voidterror to boost our maximum Void Mana early in the exile. We want to wait long enough in build up to have some Forge Empyreal Vassal casts to boost Voidterror but not too long that we lose too much pet time on Mechanos Apexis. The optimal time is around 6.5% of the way through the exile however the gains increase very rapidly at the start before leveling off so you don't need to be too precise with the ratio, just wait a little bit and do it some time within the first 10% of your exile.
Once done swap back to Mechanos Apexis and stay on it for the rest of the exile while resuming Build Up where you left off.
Item Options:
Warp Basilisk vs Crystallized Echo - While Basilisk is technically stronger per enchant level we don't actually use it in our regular Void Mana set so we should make use of the higher enchant level on Echo.
Burst
Do the standard Void Mana -> StF Snap -> GR Snap from Base Tempo before swapping to this Burst. Use Revert as usual to maintain snapped spells.
Not much to say here for spells just swap Converge Timelines for Conjure Void Elemental. Gear needs adjusting as we lose some incant scaling and gain some PAP scaling. None of our stat scalings are great in burst and you should have decent enchant levels by this point so raw profit enchants start winning.

Source Memes
Same as Base Tempo but with Summoning now on Grimoires due to the scaling from Conjure Void Elemental
Gild on Mana Gems
Summoning Efficiency on Grimoires
Incantation Efficiency on Spell Fountains
Character Experience on Enchanted Trees
Evocation Efficiency on Alchemy Desks
Character Ability Power on Circles of Power
Pet Ability Power on Dimensional Shards
Autoclick Profit on Ley Temporal Singletons
Spell Memes
Conjure Void Elemental replaces Converge Timelines, having an efficiency of 1.186 instead of 1.2. If using Merp's sheet, check "Autoclick profit?". For the most part, you can just keep the same level from CT and put it on CVE, for simplicity's sake.
Forge Empyreal Vassal has 1 efficiency and 1.255 cast scaling, and you need to check "Cast amt matters?" in the sheet.
Void Radiance goes up to 1.36 efficiency, and Void Lure goes up to 1.017 efficiency, due to CVE increasing your scale from VM.
Temporalist Dread Guide
Dread is very similar to base Tempo! You do essentially the same thing, except you have an extra (insanely powerful) spell, MTR and a second pet (which should always be RG).
Short version: use RG as your second pet, and wear idle bonus gear (like the pre-e550 Tempo guide) during burst. Because of MTR having such good cast scaling, we use that for most of our buildup. The ratio ends up somewhere around 70-80% MTR and 20-30% LO. For a tiny optimization, you can use CPE for ~1% of the exile, offloading all pet EXP items to it. MTR would also replace CPE in the offline scry set.
Buildup Changes
Because CPE is no longer worth it in any significant capacity due to us having a much better scaling spell in MTR, we have to use pet exp gear for all of buildup again, like pre-1.55 Tempo did. Also, because of Risen Giant giving us shard pool efficiency, we almost certainly don't need Spell Shards Fractalization during buildup anymore.
|
Cast Ratios: The cast ratios for Dread follow similar reasoning to base Tempo. You'll want ~80% MTR, and ~20% LO (and again, optionally like ~0.0001% of the exile for CPE, if you so desire) in the second slot in this spell set.
Note: On long (2w+) exiles, Corruptions start to give enough flat character EXP that True Sorcery no longer gives a significant amount of EXP. This means that you can start to treat it as simply a regular spell, and thus you have 2 slots. I will eventually do the math on how this works and how to ratio spells at that point, but it's unlikely CPE will be worth putting anywhere so you might just want to leave it anyways (it still has casts^.85, which is better than LO!).
Void Mana Changes
This section is incredibly short - simply use Shard Of A Lost Dimension during VM. Make sure to activate it! You don't need to enchant it at all.
Burst Changes
Our burst spell set doesn't change at all! We still snap StF->GR the same way base Tempo does, and we don't have any better profit spells from Dread. Our items do change because of Risen Giant, though. Here's our sets:
|
Memetics Changes
Source memes don't change at all. As for spell memes:
- MTR: you'll want to level it by 2s for the cast rate bonus, but it should stay decently far behind everything else. It has a cast scaling of 3.01, efficiency of 1, and you need to check "Cast rate matters?" in the sheet if you're using it. Basically just use leftover ink and maybe a bit extra for it.
- RWH: cast scaling goes up to 3.93 instead of 3.43
