Introduction

Oni converts the methodical stacking of Ironsoul and the rapid pet levelling of Demonologist into a complex powerhouse. Though slower than Heretic or Desolator, and less accessible than Archon, Oni's high scaling makes it a strong mid-game class.

First take Interrogator, level it and upgrade it into Archivist.

Stack Temper The Steel to around 170% TTS with 11.50% share. Once at 170%, you can go to the next step since you can maintain 100% defense uptime with Berzerker equipped. while building your accumulated spells indefinitely. Use Shadow-Scryer's Crystal Ball achieve 170% on TTS faster.

Source Maxing

Do a quick burst (Vmana phase + Burst) to gain more sources, then max out sources using Simulacrum/Greater Chimera while building up your TTS and Accumulated spells. More Monuments = More Incants from Berzerker.

Use Collar Of Obedience and Whiplash, to max sources fast.

Level up Archivist, then swap in Synthetic entity and Reckless cast until Void Entity this Exile slows.

Void Entities boost 150 Insight and increase Character XP. Ceaseless Hunger is better until around 5+5 enchants until Pitch-black Cage overtakes.

Step 5: Cataclysm Charging Phase

Charge Cataclysm as high as possible with Evo/Inc Reduction Items}}

Meditative Fury spell gives more stacks and scales alongside mysteries earned.

Items help generate extra stacks, make sure your MF usage rate is >1/s by using incant reduction gear, evo reduction increases stacks from amount of Hellstorm casts and fireball.

FS Stacking

[Final burst of Exile] This is the ideal moment to stack some FS before you burst.

Use the Void Mana Generation setup but swap Nether Barrier for Spacepants (Charge speed). Spend roughly 10% of your exile length before going to burst.

Void Mana Generation

If you stacked FS, swap Nether Barrier back in.

This phase can take 2-5 minutes for best results. Spend more time on this for your second burst (Emp200).

Get as much Void Mana from Voidterror until slows drastically. Collar of Obedience, Whiplash are very important items decreasing VoidTerrors Charge speed. As soon as you go to Burst you will be on a timer since your built up Void Mana will begin to go down slowly.

Build up levels on your Burst Pet, once idle mode kicks in go to the next step.

Oni Time (Burst)

Get as many Mysteries as possible. Go to Berserk Stance and activate Cataclysm, buy Hellholes and upgrades, then set Furious Strike to reckless cast manually, buying Hellholes and upgrades where possible. Once Cataclysm wears off repeat Steps 4-8 again for more mysts.

Step 8: Need more mysteries?

Simply follow Steps 5-8 again until you have acquired enough mysteries to exile. It's recommended to do at least a second burst if your exile isn't short.

Enchanting

To get Enchant priority make a copy of this spreadsheet, select the appropriate items for your total enchant range, fill the rest of the data in, input max dust and it will calculate enchant priority for you. Since it won't calculate VT levelling or Box levelling phases, for VT levelling use the Burst pet set, and for box levelling just make sure the enchants are either the minimum possible or something like -15/-20 your best item.

TTS Math

To maintain the loop, Temper The Steel must be fully refunded by casting all granted Furious Strikes. This is possible when:
$C \times R \times 1 . 1^{S} \geq \frac{N}{T}$

E.g. when Temper The Steel grants 170% Furious Strike charges per second, and casting charge-based evocation spells shares 11.5% of their cost.

Searing Gaze will halve Temper The Steel duration and thus double the loop threshold. Temporal Scabbard will reduce the loop threshold by 10% (multiplicatively) per enchant.

Tips

As Apprentice, get some easy Spellhound levels with Spell Focus and Magic Missile before switching to Oni. This can let you quickly cast Unclean Knowledge and Ritual Of Power to get started.
With enough enchants on Temporal Scabbard, the start phases can be skipped. Don't forget to level a buildup pet!
Do an early burst for Upgrades and faster Source Maxing.
If using Hungerer in the Burst phase, do not buy any sources in the Pre-Burst phase. Before and after your first Furious Strike, buy max Hellholes and any Upgrades. Continue buying Upgrades, but not sources.
At 1e780 mana (1e384 Mysteries), Meditative Fury becomes available. Use it in place of Force Of Will everywhere, to boost Pet Ability Power and Cataclysm stacking. At low Wisdom, periodic manual casts of Force Of Will may still be necessary to refill spells.
At higher Memories equip incant/evo duration reducing items during buildup with Muscle Memory to get slightly more RoP/UK/TTS casts
During longer exiles you will want to charge up your TS with Voidterror (for emp 200) for around 9% of your exile length
After your first burst you can go back to GC to build up some sources you couldn't afford during burst
If going offline make sure you equip Light of Eighth Star (Dust cap) and Blessed Tapestry (Attribute speed).

High Mysteries

At higher Mysteries we gain access to T3 pets and the Pantheon (Memetics will not change our strategy).

Meditative Fury improves Cataclysm stacking further.

Living Sin > Hungerer burst pet, Level for 25 seconds.
Greater Chimaera > Simulacrum
Mechanos Apexis > Archivist for SE stacking.

Build up

You can get around 10% more RoP and UK casts with maxed Muscle Memory, Kata bracers, Searing Gaze, Frosty ring, Habitstone. Rest of items can be enchanted with CaP to increase it more. If you have plenty of Iron Blood stacks you could use them up to cast more too.

Offline

Equip Light of Eight Star and Blessed Tapestry if you turn the game off.

Cataclysm

You want to make sure you get as many casts as possible of both fireball and hellstorm, so equipping items like Searing Gaze, and Warp Basilisk will increase overall stacks. Make sure to try to press Cataclysm when all non summon spells are about to cast at the same time (If you swap spell set, usually after 4 casts of MF & UK they will be decently timed).

Only a general guideline is offered, as the optimal distribution is highly context-dependent.
