Archon
Description
Increase profits with the amount of spells cast and spell shards collected. Focuses on gaining more shards and increasing profits through his spells and upgrades.
Unique Source: Arcane Anomaly, replaces Dimensional Rift.
In addition, Archon has access to Arcanasprings (instead of Spell Fountains) and Anti-magic Domes (instead of Circles of Power), like the Arcanist and Abolisher.
Unique Pet: Soulstealer, evolves into Psychic Cacophony.
Upon reaching Paragon 42, Archon may take on either Ascension Forms: Tempest or Defiance.
Basic Design
Archon is a potent combination of Arcanist and Abolisher. His class ability literally combines their abilities, scaling off shards and spells, and his powerful late-game spell Tempered Arcanomancy combines the powerful accumulating spells of Arcane Infusion and Silence.
Archon takes even better advantage of Arcanist's JMS, with an incredible amount of spells stacking based on casts and total casts, including Ritual Of Power, Karnaphen's Spellshroud, Radiant Pools, Syphon Power, Nullzone, and even Tempered Arcanomancy.
His new pet, Soulstealer, also greatly exceeds the abilities of Abolisher's Doppelganger, including new abilities all the way to level 300, and removing the dependence on Materialise Doppelganger, instead levelling based on character XP.
This all adds up to a complex T2 class, with lots of mechanics to balance, but with incredible potential for profits.

Archon Origin Story | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Jas'Aham was not born in the Realm. His birthplace was among the nobles of the Faraway lands, an heir to a family with a strong talent for magic. The magic was prohibited and rarely heard of among the commonfolk, so a select few masters taught the gifted students in secret, constantly reminding them of the dangers magic can bring. From a young age, he craved knowledge of arcane, practiced tirelessly and read every book on magic he could get. His teacher, Tazzaren the Grim, was not happy about this. As time went on, the ignorant progress of his student grew more and more enfuriating to him, as did Tazzaren's cautious views - frustrating to young Jas'Aham. This culminated when a heated argument resulted in a duel, to which many bore witness. Despite all of his talent, Jas'Aham could not land a single blow on his teacher. Tazzaren delflected and countered each spell flinged at him with ease and mocked his apprentice for his rash tactics. Humiliated and defeated, Jas'Aham was forbidden to practice magic. But his will would not be broken so easily. He's heard tales of a kingdom in the west where magic flowed freely, and each and every man had the right to study it without limits. He mustered whatever supplies he couldn't provide with magic and left. The journey took months. Crossing the desert was dangerous, but finally stepping into the Realm proved to be a bit of a shock - magic did ran rampant, yes, but it also took forms of undead being raised, demons being summoned and populations slaughtered. As he wandered without any guidance, he bore witness to one such atrocity. Unable to stay away any longer while innocents suffer, he intervened and defeated the dark wizard, only to be later subdued by local militia, who saw him as the culprit. Luckily for him, the famous Arcanist brothers, Chamaon and Karnaphen, where resting in the same town and caught wind of the events. Through magic, they managed to communicate with young Jas'Aham and reveal his exploits. Thus began his training and, later, servitude as an Arcanist of the Realm.
Years passed, as Jas'Aham grew wiser and stronger. He has found his place in life, studying magic and protecting the lives of commonfolk, even marrying a fellow Arcanist. But as time passed, the words of the great prodigy, Kelphior, that he spoke upon his first day at wizard academy, resounded in his head with greater and greater purpose: "Is magic evil? All of you might have borne witness to horrors it can bring. But then, tell me - are the torches and the candles in this hall, tongues of their flames, evil? Will they become evil, should I drop them and cause a fire? Will they become evil, should anyone die because of that? I see no reason to see magic in a different light. Thus, I study, I teach and I wield any I can muster. Should I bring evil upon any, through lack of care or with an evil intent, I am the danger, not the magic itself. My mistake would indeed be one not to be repeated - but not by banning any sort of magic, but by understanding why did I bear this lack of care or evil intent, and whether I should've been stopped or treated another way." He was no longer around to ask for advice, but Jas'Aham already knew what he needed to do. Just like the day he left the Faraway lands, he packed and journeyed across the land, back towards his former home, intent on bringing knowledge he now had to his people. The journey was much harder than the previous one, but his greatest trials still awaited him. The minute he entered the vicinity of his home city, he felt a presence. A shrouded figure surprised him with an attack from the shadows, which he barely deflected. - 'So, you've rreturned. Mmmy failure,' the figure said. That voice... It was familiar, but yet alien, as if something else was breaking through with every word. - 'Teacher? Is that... you?' Jas'Aham replied - 'Yyes. Both me and... mmme,' Tazzaren said, as in some dissonant union. - 'What've happened to you? What do you mean?' - 'I've joined the ranks of Abbbolishers. And the eternal companion joined... mme. Now, we shall destroy you,' with those words the figure splitted in two silhouttes overlapping each other and lunged forward. A battle ensued. For every attack Jas'Aham launched, his opponent deployed a counterspell, or hid behind humming, crystalline energy fields that seemingly absorbed magical energy. With each absorbed hit, Tazzaren only seemingly grew stronger, and counterattacked with debilitating curses and deadly ranged weapons, every once in a while attempting to strike Jas'Aham from every direction. But his former pupil has grown in his self-imposed exile. His new seniors have been fighting all sorts of menaces and taught him some tricks as well. Every strike against him was deflected by a transparent, spherical canvas woven of warding spells, and while he poured immence energy into both his defence and offense, his reserves never dwindled thanks to an ethereal staff that siphoned raw Ley energies from the surrounding space itself. This stalemate had to be broken, and Jas'Aham unleashed his best creation to finally bring the odds into his favor. Thousands of glimmering missiles sprayed of his hands all aiming for his former teacher from all sides. Countering as hard as he could, Tazzaren wasn't able to fight off every single one, and the blows began to pile up on him. But as the battle continued, Jas'Aham's wards began to fade, the courtesy of anti-magic wards and incantations Tazzaren was channeling all the while. Trading blow for blow, it continued for a while, when suddenly Tazzaren's doppelganger shrieked with frenzied fury and ran sideways, drawing the attention of both combatants. A colossal hole in the ground appeared, spewing hellfire around, as a towering demon emerged from it, with legions of smaller fiends following. Clad in embers and dark, spiked steel, its laughter sounded like a thunder, as it leaped towards the city. A single swipe of its gigantic sword split the wall down to the ground, and demons poured in. Startled, Jas'Aham noticed that even the unnatural aura of Tazzaren gave in, as he muttered, 'Impossible...' - 'What is that thing?! Tazzaren?!' - 'An Oni. A thing of legend. Or it was...' - 'Our people are dying! Hurry!' cried Jas'Aham, rushing forward If he looked back, he'd seen the surprise in his former teacher's eyes, but it was not a time for words anymore. They've launched everything they had at the monster, but only laughter echoed. It has turned its attention towards them, and several greater demons followed. Magic attacks hurt him, without doubt, but he shrugged it off as if it was nothing and delivered terrible blows one after another to both wizards. The wards of Jas'Aham were barely holding, and Tazzaren was busy countering all the flames the beast was mustering, while trying to dodge it's blows. It just didn't care for all the negation of his magic Tazzaren and his Doppelganger were applying, scattering them with wicked blows and refined, skilled sword technique, reigniting the surrounding inferno the second they flinched. - 'We can't hold it, Tazzaren! I'm at my limit!' - 'Your attack aren't hurting him, can't you hit any harder? Is this all they could teach you?' - 'Now is not the time! I can't, I don't have enough raw power! Can't your... twin yield me some?' Jas'Aham asked, fighting through the smoke. He sensed the Doppelganger was constantly feeding Tazzaren power, augmenting his sorceries. A tremendous blow threw them both flying, abruptly ending their exchange. With a hard landing, they saw the Oni approaching them, still laughing, readying to strike the final blow. - 'You gave me an idea that might work, my former student. We might not survive in full meaning of the word, but it gives us a chance. It'd not be accepted by anyone, but seeing how your journey and audacity brought results has borne a sort of inspiration inside my mind. My Doppelganger, the "twin" as you called it, is tied to my soul. It's a part of me. But...' - 'We don't have much time! What do you propose we do?' - 'I gave up my soul, my humanity to protect these people. Are you ready... to give up your soul? Make your choice, Arcanist.' Ideals of Arcanists. Words of his former teacher. Speeches of Kelphior. Accepting gaze, the teachings of his older comrades. His new family. Everything flashed before his eyes in an instant. But as any Arcanist, he never doubted. "Protect the Mankind. Protect those you love." - 'I am.' He felt iron-clad claws on his chest as if they were clutching his heart. A fleeting whisper, that of Tazzaren?... No... "Peeeerfeccckt". The twin creature was the one who uttered this. It did not matter. A spike, a tremendous volume of power. Feeling of controlling the very essence, the life-beat of magic, extinguish it or let it burn as bright as the sun. Then... a dream. A dream that seemed to last for days, weeks even. A dream of fighting a mirror-image of himself, inside an empty space. Tazzaren is watching him fight his double for control. After an exhilirating fight, his will prevails. "I shall serrrve... For nnow... But know tthhis, the moment you let thisss grip go, I shall bbbe there. And you ssshall not winn...". In reality, moments passed. - 'This body, what is this? It's like we're one being?' Jas'Aham tried to tell Tazzaren, realizing he's speaking to him inside his own head. - 'We _are_ as one. Me, you and the hungering malevolence, the doppelganger, which holds us together and strives to take control at the same time.' the voice of Tazzaren began to sound as his own, mending into a unison cacophony of three voices. - "Let. Us. Destroy. Him" With their power combined and expanded beyond measure, the Archon, the atrocity of ancient Faraway arcane lore, they rushed forward. Defy magic, focus it into a microscopic spike of energy, absorb it, redirect it, unleash it in wildest manner; their abilities were tied in perfect harmony. The wards became seemingly impregnable, the spells - uninterruptable, the weapons - powered by raging lightning. At the end of the day the victory was theirs, costing them the very thing they chose to protect - their humanity. |
